Starhawk (2012 video game)

For the Cinematronics game, see Starhawk (1977 video game).

Starhawk is a third-person shooter video game released only for the PlayStation 3 system on May 8, 2012 in North America, May 10, 2012 in Japan and May 11, 2012 in Europe and Australia. It is the spiritual successor to 2007's Warhawk.

The most notable change from Warhawk is the addition of a single-player story mode, which was intended to be included in Warhawk but was eventually removed. The gameplay is similar to Warhawk. A new system called "Build n' Battle" allows players to build structures such as bunkers, defenses, and armories in the midst of battle, giving the game a real-time strategy (RTS) feel while remaining a third-person shooter. The game includes flying mechs called Hawks. A player respawns into a landing craft which they can steer with in a limited range to reach the battle field. Like Warhawk, there are 32-player online battles. Starhawk also has a co-operative mode similar in concept to the Horde Mode in the Gears of War franchise.

In the distant future, humans are colonizing on other planets across the galaxy. At the same time, humans are mining a valuable energy source called Rift Energy. The rift energy miners, known as Rifters, began mining the Rift Energy from the planets, but some of the Rifters were exposed to the Rift Energy, which transformed them into savage-like mutants known as Outcasts. The Outcasts, protective of the Rift Energy, attacked Rifter mining sites, including a farm owned by brothers Emmett and Logan Graves. An Outcast war party destroyed their rig, and both brothers became exposed to Rift Energy. Logan, unfortunately, mutated into an Outcast, but Emmett was able to remain human thanks to his friend Sydney Cutter, who created a regulator to implant into Emmett’s spine to keep him from transforming into an Outcast. Emmett and Cutter soon become hired gunslingers who travel from planet to planet to protect the Rifter mining sites from Outcast war bands.
In the small town of White Sands on the planet of Dust, Mayor Jonas asks for Emmett and Cutter’s help to protect the town from an upcoming attack by the Outcast. They agree to help for a price, and are able to push back the attacking Outcasts. The two later find out that the Outcast war party was being led by the notorious Outcast known as the Outlaw, who turns out to be Emmett’s brother Logan. The Outcast appear to be retreating in their ships, and White Sands celebrates. However, the Outlaw and his Outcast group attack a Rifter freight way, resulting in the captain of the cargo ship to self-destruct the freight way. Emmett and Cutter discover that the citizens of White Sands were taken prisoners by the Outlaw to a nearby moon to be converted into Outcasts. Emmett is able to rescue Mayor Jonas, and the two head back to White Sands which is under attack. Emmett, Cutter, and the remaining White Sands folks are able to defeat the attacking Outcasts, but Jonas is killed in the battle.
Emmett and Cutter head to the asteroid called Sever, the Outlaw’s hideout, to put an end to Logan’s atrocities. Emmett confronts his brother, and he subdues the Outlaw. However, Logan is transformed by the power of the Rift Energy into a large, monstrous Rift entity. Emmett defeats the entity, and Cutter places a rig on top of the Rift Energy source on Sever. Despite losing his brother, Emmett and Cutter continue to make a living by being Rift Salvagers.

ME3 Firefight Weapons pack for single player now available--Mass Effect 3

he Firefight Weapons pack with 7 weapons nw to the single player game, is now available for PC and Xbox 360 (coming later today for Playstation 3).

The Firefight Pack includes the following weapons:
Indra Sniper Rifle: Fully automatic sniper rifle.

The Indra's low-powered scope leaves it most effective at medium range, but many soldiers believe this limitation is offset by the gun's rapid rate of fire. The Indra is the first military-grade, fully automatic sniper rifle. It has an extremely efficient heat-sink system that allows a surprisingly large number of shots to be fired before the weapon ejects its thermal clip.

Krysae Sniper Rifle: Heavy turian sniper rifle with explosive rounds and an automatic scope for all-range fighting.
This turian antimateriel rifle is modified to kill Reaper enemies. The Krysae's scope uses a rangefinder that adjusts to keep the target in proper proportion to the shooter, which comes in useful when the sniper is forced into close range. Its specialized ammunition is both armor-piercing and explosive. In a desperate move, the turians released its specifications over the extranet so that nearly anyone with a fabricator could manufacture this weapon to help the war effort.

Reegar Carbine: Quarian electrical weapon that's best at close range.
This electrical weapon improves upon the arc pistol's design by generating a sustained current on its target. This weapon is named for the quarian Reegar family, whose marines have served valiantly against the geth.

Harrier Assault Rifle: Full-auto Cerberus rifle with low recoil and heat generation.
These Cerberus-modified Mattock rifles are fully automatic. Cerberus gunsmiths reined in the recoil issues, resulting in a gun that stays on target but delivers slightly less punch per round than a standard Mattock. As such, the weapon is typically utilized by Cerberus's elite troops who train constantly to make every burst count.

Geth SMG: Fully-automatic geth submachine gun. Its rate of fire increases when the trigger is held.
This submachine gun works on the same principles as the Spitfire: it shoots superconducting toroids that break apart on impact, retaining an electrical charge that flash-converts the shrapnel into plasma. Unlike the Spitfire, however, this smaller geth weapon has been modified to take thermal clips. Holding down the trigger speeds up its rate of fire, rapidly depleting the gun’s heat sink in exchange for nearly continuous fire.

Blood Pack Punisher SMG: Submachine gun with a secondary barrel that fires armor-piercing rounds.
The Punisher features a secondary barrel that fires one armor-piercing round per main-barrel burst. It was developed by Blood Pack gunsmiths who found that their vorcha recruits frequently forgot to optimize ammo loads in the heat of combat. This configuration makes the process automatic and highly effective at penetrating armor.

Adas Anti-Synthetic Assault Rifle: Electrical weapon that's effective against shields and synthetic targets.
Named in memory of the quarians killed in the Morning War on the planet Adas, this weapon's electrical attack has been optimized for medium- to long-range firefights. Alliance marines take issue with calling it a "rifle" since, technically, it has no rifling in its barrel. The quarians shrug this off, as quarian weapon terminology rarely translates flawlessly into human languages.

Darksiders II

Darksiders II is an action adventure role-playing video game developed by Vigil Games and published by THQ. It is the sequel to Darksiders and was released in August 2012 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, with a Wii U port scheduled later in the year.
Darksiders II's story take place during the 100-year imprisonment of War following the Darksiders prologue, following the premature End War.
After War is captured and charged for his crimes, the Charred Council inform the other three Horsemen of his fate. The Horseman Death, knowing that his brother War is the most honorable and incorruptible of the four, and would never have started the Apocalypse early, flies into a rage. Believing his brother is victim of a conspiracy, Death defies the Council's orders and sets out on a personal mission to find proof of his brother's innocence.
Death travels to the Nether Realms, a place between Heaven and Hell, to call in favors from powerful beings that rule the realm.
Players take control of Death, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
Like the first game, the core gameplay mechanics remain the same. Player have two types of weapons: a primary set of weapons is a pair of scythes and secondary weapons such as axes, hammers, and claws. The addition of various secondary weapons expand upon combat strategy and styles, tailoring them more to the player's preference. Similar to the first game, player will find essential abilities in various areas as well as solve puzzles in order to complete dungeons. Once the player has beaten the game the character items and level can be retained in a new game plus mode. The monsters and bosses in turn will also be leveled to accommodate the player.
Unlike the first game, "Darksiders II" features an role-playing game style of gameplay in a vastly expanded world. The game world is separated into several realms, each complete with side quests and plot driving main quest. As the player completes quests and engage in combat, the player gains experience. When the experience meter is full, the player will level up and be awarded skill points to be spent on Wrath skills. In addition, Darksiders II features a new loot system and replaces Darksiders soul currency with the more traditional gold. The player can acquire loot from various chests in the environment or purchase them from shops with in game gold.

THQ's creative director Luis Gigliotti revealed in an interview with GameAxis that Darksiders will be a franchise and that they are contemplating a sequel. Joystiq has stated that a Darksiders sequel was planned for the fiscal year of 2012.
An article on the Official Xbox Magazine website confirmed that Darksiders II was expected to be released in 2012. It was announced at E3 2011 that Darksiders II would be a launch title for the upcoming Wii U with modifications necessary to fit the controls of the Nintendo console as well as some new features unique to the console.
The game will take Death across multiple dungeons and city hubs. City hubs feature NPCs who can give out side quests etc. One city hub will connect to a number of dungeons and that one city area will feature more dungeons than the whole of the original Darksiders. Loot will also be included, dropping from encounters as rewards ranging from 12 different armor piece categories, which can have different enchantments and may power up Death's Wrath Powers.
At the San Diego Comic Con, it was revealed that Michael Wincott would provide the voice of Death. On June 19, 2012, James Cosmo (who appeared as a priest in "The Last Sermon," a live-action trailer for the game) was announced as the voice of Maker Elder Eideard, Death's guide throughout the story.
On February 14, THQ has announced that Darksiders II would hit stores on June 26, 2012. Pre-order DLC bonuses for the game were also announced, for GameStop, Best Buy and Amazon. On April 18, 2012, THQ announced on their website that Darksiders II will be delayed until August 2012. The PC requirements were released on July 19, 2012.

Darksiders II has been met with mostly positive review. Aggregating review websites GameRankings and Metacritic gave the Xbox 360 version 86.83% and 85/100, the PlayStation 3 version 85.57% and 84/100 and the PC version 85.00% and 83/100.
